The Literary Hour - inspired by the childhood books we devoured by torchlight, we wanted to recreate the mouth-watering moments in a magical evening.
The Literary Hour - inspired by the childhood books we devoured by torchlight, we wanted to recreate the mouth-watering moments in a magical evening.
Helen and the team at the Literary Hour were absolutely superb. the entertainment was brilliant, the little extras they added were an absolute treat, the actor was fantastic on his feet and of course the food with the drink pairing was sublime.. an adventure for all the senses! this was our first supper club and certainly won’t be our last! well done!
Inventive food and good conversation with your fellow diners are the hallmarks of this event. The venue and atmosphere are eclectic and relaxed. Perfect for group events such as birthdays and anniversaries. The team at Literary Hour was highly responsive and flexible about special requests both before and during the event. Would highly recommend to all light-hearted and social foodies.
Once again I have been surprised, delighted and transported by the literary hour! An evening of exciting and delicious food as we traversed the globe in style. Their attention to detail and lovingly chosen literary passages makes this an evening like no other in London! Thanks for having me!
Like some other people, I did not think this event was worth the considerable price I paid for it (nearly £70 in total). The food was not particularly exciting and the portions were small. I also paid £24 for the paired drinks, which was poor value for money. And this was held in a pretty grungy/basic venue, so it was difficult to get into the immersive dining experience. I've definitely had better Grub Club experiences than this.
Such a fun night in a cool setting. Went for the drink pairing and loved every course and drink. Particular highlights venison tartare and the Chenin blanc yum!!
Fantastic night out with excellent food and service! Nailed it once again literary club! Thank you :-)
Sorry to say last nights experience wasn’t at all what I expected, there was very little information about what to do or how To go about ordering drinks and had to ask about it,felt the host could inform everyone ,also people were eating things on sticks that we knew nothing about,as for the food it took ages to arrive and was very random ,the only entertainment was a recorded loop of images on wall, for the price we felt we would have been better going to a regular restaurant. This is from 2people who love alternative and emmersive dining and experiences.very disappointed and what we saw many people around us were too. .
Another great evening - this time travelling through a culinary world and enjoying our experience with each course. We were immersed into a hub of chatter and all too soon we had arrived at our destination
Our third night out at the Literary Hour and this is their best yet! Great atmosphere and fantastic setting. Love, love, love the small touches and surprises! Once again they pull of a gastronomic delight from around the world!
Thoroughly disappointed with this so called immersive dining experience. After a good start ..I was looking forward to the culinary journey but it all fell flat . The reading between the courses was at breakneck speed so one really couldn’t follow what was being read . There was also a long wait between the different courses , and as for the food ...very mediocre and not worth the money.
Awesome congenial evening ... not for foodies
Down by the riverbank complete with wooden punt TLH yet again came up trumps - for ingenuity and setting, not to mention the carefully thought-out full menu (crispy cuisses de grenouille - who'd have thunk it?!) and cocktails, gorgeous splatter pud, and stimulating and fun company. So thank you, team, for a most enjoyable night.
Brilliant immersion dining experience!
Such a fun evening. Great food and great atmosphere. Highly recommend.
I didn't really know what to expect when booking but was pleasantly surprised and had a great evening of creative & tasty food and sociable atmosphere with other foodies. Looking forward to seeing what other stories the Literary Hour will adapt into delicious menus in future events.
A great night! Very quaint, magical and tasty.
Another great evening af the literary hour, such thought goes into the concept and the little touches really make the evening
Charming and well managed overall.
5 out of 5. Welcoming staff, great setting, delicious food. Fine dining with a literary twist. What could be better. Love the little touches like the toad wallpaper on the walls and the real boat on water, set amongst reeds and rushes. No trouble was spared to set the scene for us and the long tables means getting to know your neighbours for the night. Congratulations again to The Literary Hour team for a fabulous evening in Toad Hall.
I won't give too much away but you really thought you were in the book in every way possible - The Literary Hour truly thought of everything to make this experience magical. And the food was scrumptious - the most succulent lamb I have ever tasted. I was slightly apprehensive as I didn't know what the menu was and I'm a bit fussy, but I gobbled the lot. Quirky, clever, delicious - would definitely recommend and shall be returning!
Excellent evening and a lovely way to be reminded of a treasured childhood memory.
Fantastic evening, would highly recommend this to anyone. One of the best I've been at. Showed their class when being very accommodating and resolving my booking error, thought I'd booked for 4 but had only done so for 1. Thanks once more.
Fun evening, good food, met some nice people (again) and loved the extra effort with the dessert. Really detailed touches on the decoration to make the evening special.
Absolutely fantastic! An incredibly magical and amazing night. Own downside was the lack of white wine (they sold out!). Overall, so, so good. Definitely worth it.
Truly magical experience! Really relaxed vibe but with delicious food beautifully presented. So much creativity and attention to detail made for a unique evening - highly recommend!!!
Well, well, well. What can I say? An absolute corker and a stunner of an evening in every respect. I was delighted and excited throughout. The set transported me to a magical winter world, the food whisked my taste buds to yet unexplored lands (beaver salami and Tabasco turkish delight!) and the readings took me back to a happy and nostalgic place. Thanks team! I can't wait for the next one!
AMAZING! As soon as I opened the wardrobe door, walked through the fur coats, past the fir trees to be warmly greeted by one of the hosts, Helen, I knew my friend and I were going to be in for a magical evening. The Literary Hour team had dressed the location, transforming it into the perfect mix of Narnia and dining experience. We made our way through this whimsical wonderland (fir trees surrounding the familiar lamp post, Mr Tumnus’ home – via the bar) and found our way to the rustic dining area. Although the venue could have been quite cold and drafty, the dining ‘room’ was kept warm and toasty all night with heaters. Loved that each seat came with a blanket to cosy in and hot water bottles were also available! Proof that attention to detail really matters to The Literary Hour team. The food was incredible. I don’t know what more I could say, I enjoyed every course. The surprise courses were sheer delight – the sloe gin was the best I’d ever sampled, while the Turkish delight tasting board was inspired – we were really surprised by some of the flavours (spoiler: Tabasco sauce). Having each course punctuated by a reading from The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe added another level of enchantment and gave context to the dish we were about eat. There wasn’t an element of the evening which hadn’t been touched by the Narnia magic, dishes were served in vintage or beautiful bespoke crockery, dry ice created a fairy-tale ambiance, while the serving staff were warm, friendly and attentive. We were also well and truly spoilt with the cocktails available, the whole menu had been carefully thought-out and was full of delicious Narnia inspired concoctions. Reasonably priced too! Walking into Narnia, being provided with superb food and drink, catching up with familiar faces and meeting new ones was just the tonic for a gloomy January evening. I can’t wait for the next literary theme and I look forward to more dining out with The Literary Hour!
I was recommended this by a friend, I have never been to a supper club before and I really enjoyed it. It was the best night’s entertainment for a very long time. The setting was superb, food was beautiful and staff could not be nicer. Will be back soon.
This is my fourth time dining with The Literary Hour and this really was an extravaganza to top all others. The attention to detail was absolutely phenomenal and I am still thinking about the work that went in to the structure of the set. I have been to the Styx venue before so I can appreciate how much work went in to bringing Narnia to life. This included real Christmas trees, a home made lamp post, Mr. Tumnus' cute house equipped with fireplace, book shelves and grandfather clock, incredible table decorations and a ceiling of fairy lights all creating such a cosy and authentic atmosphere. As ever with The Literary Hour the food was second to none and they catered brilliantly for vegetarians. Everything came out piping hot and delicious, which is quite a feet for 40 covers in pop up space. I especially enjoyed the soup with horseradish butter and the bread and butter pudding that came wrapped in brown paper served with marmalade vodka on handmade ceramics. The team serving the food and doing the readings delivered it with such ease, huge smiles and made you feel extremely welcome. You leave every event The Literary Hour hosts with a restored faith in humanity and a new fiend! I can not recommend their events enough!
The Literary Hour is a mastermind in linking two of life's best things. Food and literature. Firstly the food, wonderfully playful in how it draws upon the plot twists to give context and meaning to the sumptuous servings. Unfussy, awe-inspiringly original and totally delicious; each course was thoughtfully prepared and fabulously executed. To my total delight before each dish there was a reading (to refresh those a little rusty with the narrative) and give a gentle nod to the scenes which had provided the inspiration to the course being devoured. I now better understand the four children’s contentment after feasting on Mrs Beaver's marmalade roll! True to the world created by Lewis, the atmosphere had a fantastical feel to it. There was the smell of pines once you step out of the wardrobe (yep, stepped out the wardrobe) and the forest inspired dining tables were lovely with low hung fairy lights and branches overhead. The team behind LH have managed to create that rare mood, where everyone seems relaxed and enjoying themselves without apparent fuss or taking it all too seriously. And it was the small touches which I particularly enjoyed, the secret courses, character-inspired cocktails, and the hot water bottles. Everything had a sense of wit and care to it. I left feeling full, inspired, and making a mental note to have a ferret in attic for The Voyage of the Dawn Treader...
Such an adventure through the wardrobe into the Narnia forest. Amazing food, cocktails and stories. Thank you!! Xx
Had such a good night with the Literary Hour team and would definitely recommend. The venue had been transformed into a Narnia wonderland with great attention to detail and the food was absolutely delicious. Loved the little extras and surprises throughout as well. Looking forward to the next instalment!
Amazing food and great atmosphere. Loved it!!!
This wasn't just going out for dinner - it was an immersive experience. We stepped through the wardrobe (literally) and Narnia was on the other side. Drinks, food and the setting were superb and the only bad bit about the night was having to leave. Thank you! to The Literary Hour team. Loved it.
A fun evening filled with delicious food in a great setting. Loved the surprises along the way. Can't wait for the next one!
Great idea & priced accordingly, not too expensive like some of these types of things can be. We loved the readings from the parts of the book that provided the inspiration for that course & the scenery design was very clever.
Thoroughly enjoyed the evening and loved it even more after learning about how you all set it up. Looking forward to the next one! Emma
Well thought out! Great fun.. Need better 'how to find us' instructions. Overall had an amazing time and the Turkish sweet cocktail was incredible
A fantastic original enjoyable night out. It's really different - we moved into another world where we were spoilt with culinary delights, readings and exotic cocktails. Many thanks again team.
Such a treat.
Fantastic evening, food was utterly delicious and a stunning atmosphere. Very very impressive!!
A truly magical night. The atmosphere and the food were so brilliantly thought through and, when delivered with such a personal touch by all the staff, just made the whole evening so unique and special
Never experienced anything quite like it. Absolutely stunning surroundings, great atmosphere and wonderful food and drink. Truly superb evening out.
Amazing experience, the venue was decorated beautifully and the food was delicious!
A night my younger self could have only dreamt about. The Literary Hour did an amazing job of bringing this classic tale to life, from entering through the wardrobe right down to the hidden vials of Lucy's cordial. The food was delicious, the ambience was great and they really thought of everything to make you feel comfortable and relaxed. Can't speak highly enough about the evening!
My third Literary Hour visit and by far the best, these guys keep raising the bar each time. The experience was amazing and they really made you feel like you were walking into Narnia. The best part was they didn't forgot to put the same amount of effort, if not more, into the menu. I would strongly advise to put The Literary Hour on your bucket list :)
Amazingly detailed transformation of the venue, in fact the attention to detail throughout was very impressive with the themed cocktails, extra courses including one hidden extra course we had to find! Totally recommended.
It was an amazing experience. Bringing the books into a feast form. The cocktails where amazing and the food was even better. The literary hour team were really lovely and you can tell a lot of passion and attention to detail has been put into every aspect of this experience. I'm looking forward to seeing what feast they put on next.
Another brilliant evening with the Literary Hour. With Narnia they have upped their game from my previous experience at Cider with Rosie, as they have moved from their home to a much larger bar where they made the experience much more immersive through decoration, lighting and a little bit of theatre and fun and games, They also catered very well for my vegetarian friend.
Lovely hosts, great set dressing, Would have liked more reading!
Loved it and will spread the word! Will be back for your next event!
The experiential element was on par with any top rated immersive theatre show that I've been to in London. We entered the space via an opening disguised as a wardrobe and proceeded through a smoky forest area, before climbing stairs and through a hidden room to arrive at the beautifully decorated dining area. It's a real treat to discover all of the little references to the book that inspired the evenings' menu. The literary hour certainly exceeded our expectations with their attention to detail. The food was delightful and full of surprises, with none of the courses feeling out of place. All of the dishes tied in nicely with the theme and were each accompanied by a brilliantly performed reading of the book. I'd be highly surprised to find a better supper club than this. I am eagerly excited for what is next from The Literary Hour!
The Literary Hour just raised it up a notch with their best supper club yet. The amount of work and detail put into the spell-binding set was incredible - a forest of Christmas trees, a canopy of branches with fairy lights... even dry ice! The food was incredible, with lots of hidden delights and surprises between courses, and the wonderful Narnia readings were wonderful.
What a delight! We were lucky enough to replace guests that were unable to make it at the last minute - we felt very lucky to be heading off to an adventure in Tottenham and it certainly didn't disappoint. The food was spectacular and the setting magical. We took home some leftover pudding in little parcels that not only kept our hands warm for the journey, but were just as scrumptious on second tasting as they had been the first. The readings fitted so perfectly with the courses and brought the evening together beautifully. Please have us back next time (and, of course, a shout out to the Volkiln plates)!
It was wonderful! Really great atmosphere, delicious food and lots of lovely surprises along the way!
This was an absolutely five star evening and definitely worth coming out on a cold wet night. The food was delicious and the team created a brilliant Narnian atmosphere.
Sheer wizardry - the team has done it again and I was wondering if it could possibly be as good as it had been in the intimacy of their delightful home but it was all fantastic; the decor and the introduction to their dining space, let alone the unbelievable food, attention to detail and the fun of more easily being able to chat to other diners. Hats off to you all and many thanks for such a memorable experience. Loved it all. - Pamela
Nora From the moment I walked through the wardrobe door it was just a magical experience. The creativity of the whole team is exceptional and they all made it a fabulous evening one to remember. The welcoming cocktail was warming, and the food was amazing, and The readings and other extras just made it a wonderful evening. this was my first supper club evening but it certainly won't be the last. Well done the literary club - first class x
I know it's only 31 January but the Narnia experience and wonderful food will be very hard to beat in 2017 - so hope to come back soon! Clare
This was a really magical evening. The Narnia set-up was wonderful with the wardrobe, the snowy forest and Mr Tumnus’ house, and so atmospheric. The attention to detail was amazing with lots of lovely surprises. The food was outstanding and really imaginative. I think my favourite was the sharing pork picnic with beautiful croquets (and it was the first time I have ever had beaver salami) but it was a close call! I also really loved the White Witch’s celeriac velouté and I thought that I didn’t like anything celery-related! The Literary Hour team was very welcoming and attentive, and all the guests that I spoke to had a great time – a brilliantly immersive evening. Very much looking forward to the next Literary Hour theme.
add another star, everything about the night was 6 star
Magical! From the moment you step into the wardrobe a wonderful experience awaits. The decor is amazing, the food brilliant as ever but it is the attention to detail, the little touches, the readings and all the surprises which make the Literary Hour so special. Spicy beaver salami anyone? Actually delicious! So was every single course. A step up for the team hosting in a different venue and for larger numbers but they pulled it off and it is hugely successful. A very creative bunch indeed. If you like superb food, great company and something a bit different, it is definitely for you!
A fantastic feast of fun and fiction. We had such an excellent evening, the literary hour team were brilliant and it wa great to meet new people to enjoy the event. We'll be looking out for the next feast!
A great night out!
A fantastic way to spend an evening. Food was delicious, experience and surroundings charming. Great value for money, looking forward to their next inspired event.
It was wonderful. All about the little details, from decor to food to surprises. Loved it!
Thank you so much for a wonderful experience! The food was imaginative and so tasty.
What a wonderful evening, charming, magical and so well executed. From entering through the wardrobe to the special surprises and the twinkling fairy lights we were transported to the land of Narnia along with all the other guests many of whom returned for the second or third time. We thoroughly enjoyed feasting in the White Witches cool winter, pampered with blankets and hot water bottles. Great job Jude and friends, we are looking forward to your next literary feast!
Feast in Narnia was everything I wanted it to be - beautifully set up, good food, and lots of lovely surprises to keep things exciting. The marmalade bread and butter pudding with custard might just pip everything to the post as the highlight but the whole evening was great. I'll be back!
I absolutely loved this experience, such a good idea! The surrounds were perfect, always winter never Christmas! The food was wonderful, lived the winter warming drink to start. Well done! I will definitely be going to another literary hour event, thank you!
Very friendly helpful staff. Brilliant detail in the decoration. Brilliant meeting new people. Lovely and enough food.
Great evening, well thought through and the people running it were really enthusiastic and friendly. Would definitely recommend
Very atmospheric and a great time.
Great food nice little touches with hidden bottle and Turkish delight. Expected surroundings to be a little more refined could just be me!
Such a delightful experience! Not only was the food delicious - perfeftly themed and sized portions (also served at perfect temperatures - no mean feat when catering for a crowd!) that added up to satisfied bellies - but countless little touches throughout the evening just made it a real memorable experience. The amount of effort and work that the team behind this event was clear and completely appreciated! From entering through the wardrobe through a forest of trees into Narnia, through to Mr Tumnus' house and into a wonderful setting for the main event, we loved it. We can't wait to join the next Literary Hour event! Well done!
We came with high expectations and were not dissapointed. Narnia was carefully recreated from entry through the wardrobe, to mr Tumnus' house. The food was outstanding with ample amounts and the atmosphere was buzzing with everyone's excitement at discovering themselves inside their childhood favourite book.
Absolute magic! The added thought of hot water bottles to keep us cosy was an added treat, the whole evening was simply delicious!
Fantastic event, really well organised, amazing atmosphere. The whole concept was genius, would absolutely go to any of the Literary Hour events in the future.
This was our first go at this kind of thing and WOW What an amazing night! From start to finish the evening was a wonderful experience, the attention to detail was flawless (even passing out hot water bottles!) The cocktails are a not to be missed part of the experience, "The White Witch" was by far our fav. Everybody we spoke to had a great time and was soooo friendly and up for a great entertaining night, would go to this event again! 5***** stars all the way, cant wait for the next one!
I took my mum here for her birthday on a friends recommendation and we had a wonderful evening. We were instantly charmed by the beautiful Narnia themed setting - walking through the wardbrobe in search of our fairylit table. The food was sensational - every dish was a creative reflection of the Narnia tales, and there were some exciting little treats and surprises in between courses. Every little detail had been thought of! It was an immersive, memorable evening which I will recommend to all friends and family! Thank you The Literary Hour for bringing my childhood fantasy to life!
Totally amazing night that was so much more special that going out to a restaurant. Lots of delicious, imaginative food and drink (the marmalade vodka was a total winner), nice touches like walking through the wardrobe, and the team created a really warm and friendly vibe. Looking forward to the next one already.
This was a really fantastic event! The food was excellent and there was so much of it! The guys had really made an effort bringing narnia to life. I've been to several other literary hour dinners held in the team's home and they are always really great.
What fab night out! A short walk from the tube and I entered a lost world of my childhood through the wardrobe and into Narnia! So many small details from the decor to the lighting that made this a super setting. As always the food from the Literary Hour was top notch. The little game with the turkish delight flavours was an extra bonus! Highly recommend if you are looking for something a bit different from your average dining experience. Thank you for a great night :)
Fantastic evening. Great set up and, although it was on the cold side, the staff did everything they could to keep us warm. Great food and lovely company! Fantastic theme and lovely cocktails - what more could you want?!
What a brilliant night in Narnia! I was transported to my childhood memories of The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe as soon as I stepped through those fur coats and there were countless touches and details after that which filled the evening with nostalgic joy. The food was delicious - Mrs Beaver's marmalade bread and butter pudding particularly went down a treat - and we were looked after brilliantly by the whole team. We'll definitely be looking out for more events from The Literary Hour.
Wow! So happy I made the journey north to Narnia this evening!! I forgot how much I used to love sitting down to watch the Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe every Sunday evening as a kid. This experience had it all, including the forest, Mr Tumnus's house, the wardrobe and most importantly the lampost which was proably my favorite bit. Food was excellent as usual, the best was the most exquisite bread and butter (brioche I believe) pudding. I surprise tasting game was a real delight, litterally. I feel like I lost count of the number of course I had, really delightful! Thanks again, this was the most wonderful evening in great company. Oh and the fact the you could see your breath and kept wrapped up all night just made it all the more authentic, loved that. There were even fur coats you could borrom from the wardrobe on your way in!
This was a fantastic event! The food was really tasty and imaginative with really clever food choices which fitted with the event. The event was fully immersive with great decor and attention to detail and clearly a lot of effort and preparation had gone into it. The readings inbetween courses were also a great touch and really added to the wonderful atmosphere. Also, we had a great time with the other guests who were very friendly and also enjoying themselves. I would definitely recommend this to anyone and I'm looking forward to going again in the future.
Another stunning supper club from The Literary Hour. They have scaled up from a house to a venue so well by keeping all the small personal touches but also utilizing the space to make things even more immersive. The food was delicious and there were lots of lovely little surprises along the way. The food alone would warrant a visit to this supper club but The Literary Hour is so much more than that. If you want an evening of literary nostalgia, escapism AND fantastic food The Literary Hour is the place for you.
An incredible night, as always. The Literary Hour team were super accommodating, happy to help in every way and the food and ambience were so lovely! The perfect Narnia experience. Can't wait for the next theme!!
What a fantastic evening! I loved all of the little touches, surprises (I won't ruin them), super friendly staff and the readings, which set the scene for each course! They have done a fantastic job of converting the space, especially the feast space which was so beautifully setup- it felt like an enchanted wood!!! Can't wait to see what they do next!!!
What a wonderful evening! Loved every moment, and every dish. Absolutely delicious, and so much fun. And managed to stay quite cosy with all the layers and the hot water bottle! Thank you so much - will definitely be back.
Not a bad evening, location wasn't great it was really really cold. Thought there would be a little more Narnia interaction
What an evening! From the very moment of quite literally stepping through the wardrobe to Narnia, the atmosphere was simply magical and the food was faultless. The Literary hour team are so personable and attentive. There are no words for such wonderful imagination and perfect execution. I didn’t want to leave. I loved even more the interaction with the hosts and the offerings of extras. Please just go and see for yourself, you will be blown away. I can't wait for the next
Another incredible evening with the Literary Hour. The venue was a big step-up from the dining room and the gamble really paid off. Styx bar was a great choice and gave a more magic atmosphere in which to eat our dinner. And what a dinner it was. Every course was a perfect blend of literary reference, innovation and comfort food; Mrs Beaver's bread and butter pudding with vodka marmalade was my particular favourite, but there wasn't a single dish that I didn't fall completely in love with. I can't wait to see what they come up with next...
From wardrobe to White Witches - the night was genuinely magical. We were wrapped up warm, the setting was amazing and the level of imaginative detail was a constant delight. The team went above and beyond as always (total legends the lot of them). Highlights included the Turkish delight game, marmalade shots and the woman who shouted out "We're eating beaver???". So much laughter followed.... Thanks for an amazing night!
Had a wonderful time. It combined two of my favourite things: books and food! The organisers were really lovely and attentive. The food was creative and fun. It was clear that a lot of thought and effort had gone into the idea and execution. We had a few minor glitches - there was a short blackout but this was handled professionally, it was quickly fixed and everyone took it with good humour. Looking forward to going to another one of these soon.
A fabulous evening in delightful surroundings. So much thought had gone into the presentation of the space. The food was excellent, the wine so reasonably priced and the company was friendly. I loved the readings to introduce the courses. A very enjoyable evening. Thank you GrubClub
What an amazing evening! From start to finish the whole night was a wonderful experience. Set in a large venue near Tottenham Hale, the guys had created a stunning set (i think i counted 40 Christmas trees!) that really allowed you to immerse yourself in to the festivities. And this was all before the food and cocktails came out. I had high expectations but they were all surpassed. It was clear that a lot of care and attention to detail had been taken and it paid off big time - amazing creative flavours and ideas. My favourite had to be the surprise turkish delight course. We had to guess five flavours (i only got 2) but it was a great example of the small touches that added so much to the whole experience. All in all the perfect evening. Thanks to everyone who made it so much fun. Looking forward to the next one!
Such a lovely evening. Gorgeous atmosphere. Loved the blankets and the hot water bottles, it was Narnia after all, always Winter never Christmas. Delicious, delicious food!!! And the nicest, funniest, most interesting people around us. NO ONE was on their phone, except for a little photo taking right at the beginning, because we were all having such a good time eating and talking....that has to be the highest accolade going! We particularly loved being read to. And read to from a book that looked like it was a proper old favourite, maybe even dropped in the bath. A book for book lovers. A gorgeous touch.
Clever and considered culinary fantasy! Great ambiance, delicious dinner with a balance of unexpected surprises, andspecial ingredients all on theme. Not too much "organized fun" so time to enjoy great food and company between courses while taking in the decor!
An exceptional experience! Superb food and the creativity of the set up they have created is amazing, lovely people too. I kind of don't want to spoil the surprise of it all by giving anything away so I won't write too much. Wish I could come back...maybe you could add more dates?!
A lovely evening.
Lovely evening. The venue was really well set up 'set' for dinner. Loved the readings in between some great food and good company.
It would be helpful if the veggie options were included on the menu on the table, so we knew what we were eating! Even he waiters didn't always know.
Fantastic food, great crowd and the most welcoming hosts I've ever experienced at a dinner party - already got my tickets to the series!
It was a brilliant night - lots of fun, fine food & company in a lovely setting.
A mouth-watering menu, wonderful company, and all the comforts of a home-cooked dinner party - and more! This was my second experience at The Literary Hour and it only gets better. Thank you to the entire team for making such delicious food, and for making all of your guests feel so welcome! An experience I will never forget - and one that I will be coming back for time and time again. Molly
This is the third Literary Hour supper club that have been to and it was the best so far. The food was all excellent, especially the lovely gyoxa, the succulent mussels in a divine sauce and the perfect pork cheeks. Really friendly hosts and a great atmosphere. Really looking forward to the next Narnia one! Guy
I had a brilliant evening at The Literary Hour's Cider with Rosie event. Great ambiance and setting alongside spectacular food, highlights were the stunning gyoza and succulent pork cheek. Highly recommended!
That was such a fun evening. Very positive. I really enjoyed every moment and was sorry to leave when I had to because I think people might have started dancing on the tables ... or at least moved around the room a bit to talk to one another ... V nice food - all interesting and some things i hadn't tasted before like the pig's cheek ... I will definitely go to another Grub club. I think they are great fun. Thank you.
Highly recommend! I had a great evening with good company and delicious, interesting and beautifully presented food. Loved all the extra touches and surprises too! Can't wait for the next instalment.
We had such a tremendous time on Thurs for the debut Cider with Rosie - the different tastes were spectacularly put together, the atmosphere so exciting and company such fun. The friendly hosts couldn't be easier or more accommodating as they buzzed around waiting on us hand and foot, always smiling - a true party spirit indeed. Too difficult to pick out any particular course since every one was full of surprises and each a total winner. Thank you - we shall be back despite the difficulty of finding a night that's not sold out!
Yet another fabulous evening at TLH! This was my third visit, and they did not disappoint. Being a vegetarian can sometimes be a bit boring when eating out (pasta with tomato sauce anyone?), but the team at TLH always go above and beyond to accommodate me with delicious alternatives. And they served up their most delicious cocktail yet, a warm spicy treat perfect for autumn! Excellent work, team, can't wait for the next one!
Amazing once again from The Literary Hour team. Beautiful food, great ambiance and wonderful hosts. Recommended to all!
Another superb hit from the Literary Hour. Each plate was carefully curated with interesting, well balanced flavours and a little theatrical flare. The smoked apple and beetroot gyoza were a real standout. Can't wait to travel to Narnia in January!
Very inventive and lots of attention to detail, lovely company - very friendly. Food was great and just the right portion size.
Amazing food, atmosphere and company. The hosts really work hard to make sure you have a good time.
This was my 2nd experience of the Literary Hour. Another triumph! Charming hosts, good food added bonus of a literary link with each course. recommended.
This was my third time to The Literary Hour for the Cider with Rosie menu and it was absolutely phenomenal. The food never fails to amaze me. We started with hot cider which made all the guests feel so welcome and warm and moved on to the best gyozas I have ever had which were served on a beautiful hunk of wood that would give Noma a run for it's money on presentation. I sat next to an absolute babe called Megan and she was a bloody hoot! On my other side I had an old friend and it was great to catch up. We stayed late in to the night talking and laughing. The Literary Hour crew make you feel so welcome and so loved. I can't wait for the next event and just hope I can get tickets!
Amazing food, and so accommodating as a vegatarian. Lovely atmosphere, with such effort put into the decoration. 100% would dine again.
Had a super awesome time, lots of great food, friendly atmosphere and fantastic theme. Would highly recommend and look forward to coming again
Fantastic evening, the food was very good and the company was such fun we had a really good laugh. A lot of attention to detail and the hosts were friendly and very welcoming. Thank you to you all! Superb!! 😀
I introduced a friend Sarah Willcox. We just loved it. I've done the stars, but oils just like to say, it is such a positive experience. Everyone is so open to everything, so unjudgemental and everyone so into just having a good time. That said, the thought and imagination that had been put into the evening was superb! Thank you to you all! Fanny Arbuthnott
Beatrix Potter would be proud! We had such a wonderful evening at The Literary Hour. Mr. McGregor's Pillaged Pickled Veg Patch was sensational, I can still taste the mix of tapenade, goat's cheese and pistachio and will remember the presentation of the course for years to come. I am a vegetarian and they catered to my every need - I even had a surprise amuse-bouche altered so it was veggie friendly. I have been to other supper clubs where the host asks you to leave straight after the meal but Jude's household make you feel welcome to stay and chat with the other diners for as long as you wish. I think this is a reflection of their attitude to the whole experience - there are no limits to their aim for it to be friendly and fun. I cannot recommend this experience highly enough, all your childhood memories are brought to life and the food is full of surprises and amazing flavours.
Fantastic evening, decorations were amazing and the food was great too.
This was my second visit to the literary hour, and it did not disappoint. They definitely upped their game, with even more thoughtful and creative elements to the food and surroundings than last time (no easy feat, as the Roald Dahl supper club was awesome). The table length, custom made veg patch was a definite highlight. They also provided excellent vegetarian options for every course, even going to the effort of creating homemade vegetarian Parmesan crisps! Every little detail was covered and excellently executed, with fantastic company to boot. Highly recommended!!
This is my second visit to the Literary hour and I was still blown away by the attention to detail in the menu and FABULOUS presentation of all courses, especially Mr McGregor's vegetable patch. The food was superb, loved the rabbit and the egg ravioli...and the dessert...okay I loved it all. I would highly recommend a visit to the Beatrix Potter night if they have any more coming up.
Fantastic night, lots of attention paid to the details!
Another amazing evening with The Literary Hour. The attention to detail is incredible as is the food. Here seemed to be a lot of different dietary requirements which were all catered for with grace. I agree with Imogen, the only small negative was the very late arrival of one group who were loud and did not engage with the other dinners. Despite this I highly recommend The Literary Hour and will be returning.
A lovely, lovely evening! The attention to detail was fantastic and the food was even better - really top quality stuff. We had a magical time and will definitely be booking on again.
Had an absolutely incredible dinner at The Literary Hour. The theme on the night was the world of Beatrix Potter so we had some spectacular rabbit for the main course. Good food good people and as if that wasn't enough already, a reading from one of Potter's books before each course. Thank you
A brilliant, imaginative evening. Will definitely be joining you again :)
Absolutely brilliant - very cleverly put together. The food was incredible and they were perfect hosts! We had a fantastic time
Really inventive and fun evening- captured Beautrix Potter
I've been to a lot of supper clubs in my time, and I'm telling you what, this is one of the best I've experienced. Amazing attention to detail with a clever and creative menu. The food was superb, and giving it a literary twist makes it stand out from the crowd. My only small negative was that despite arriving at 7pm as requested, a lot of diners didn't arrive until 8pm which meant the evening started and ended quite late which with a long trip home, made it a very late night. But aside from that, it was really good fun, a nice crowd and really lovely hosts. I highly recommend The Literary Hour to anyone who appreciates great grub and a spot of story-telling to boot.
This was my first Grub Club experience, and what a great one it was! The table was absolutely wonderful and very clever, the bacon/whisky cocktail was a fun way to kick off the night and the menu was inspired. I particularly loved the ravioli!
The food was delicious with a really wonderful and playful presentation to all the courses.
I had such a great time at the literary hour grub club. All the hosts were so welcoming and friendly, the food was cleverly planned and delicious and the decorations suited the theme. It was very clever and imaginative and I can't wait for the next one. An experience not to be missed!
Fun, beautiful and delicious. The perfect way to spend an evening
An amazing evening! Perfect venue, an excellent team - so accommodating! The food was incredible. Attention to detail was outstanding and I will definitely be returning! Would absolutely recommend.
Absolutely wonderful evening. The food was incredible, the venue and ambiance was perfect. We'll be back for the next one!
Thank you for a fantastic evening. The food was delicious, presented beautifully and so incredibly well thought out. The attention to detail in each dish, not to mention the table setting was impecable. Highly reccomended and I cannot wait to come back for next one!
Would 100% recommend The Literary Hour to anyone (and have done!) They were incredibly welcoming and every effort was made to ensure it was all perfect. The food was excellent (the highlight was definitely the veg patch) and the atmosphere was very relaxed, it was lovely to meet different but like minded people. Will definitely be attending the next one!
The whole experience of Thurs night was so unexpectedly special - from the people I met and dined with, the amazing team of hosts, delicious taste combinations, quirky and detailed touches to the stunning table and fun atmosphere of the event. Can't recommend this too highly. Many thanks.
Simply amazing. The attention to detail was stunning, the food was delicious and the company diverse and friendly. Thank you so much!
Had a wonderful night on Thursday 14 April. Very friendly and hospitable hosts, incredible attention to detail and really great food. Mr McGregor's garden was fantastic and the ravioli was to die for - best I have ever had. Highly recommended. Looking forward to the next one.
Great concept, lovely crew and very nice food.
A wonderful way to spend an evening. Every little detail was carefully considered. The food was really creative and tasted divine.
The Literary Hour was a real 5 star experience. The food was delicious and well presented. There was a really good atmosphere with interesting people in the room. The house was beautiful and great attention to detail was paid to the decoration and presentation, which really boosted the experience. The highlights were definitely the cocktail and vegetable patch! We'll be back for sure :)
Loved it!!! Looking forward for more future Supper Clubs :D
Brilliant evening. The team put so much effort into planning everything from the food to the decor. Thank you for having us!
Fantastic evening, delicious food, beautiful welcome cocktail. Thanks guys for a great night. Would highly recommend.
It was a lovely friendly evening, and the amount of effort put into the details of the food and table settings was amazing. A big thumbs up :)
Great evening. Excellent concepts, attention to detail, great food, good atmosphere and good company. Well recommended
One word, delectable!! Such a beautifully crafted menu and thought out experience. Nothing beats sharing great food and wine with your friends and what more you get to meet new people that enjoy the same things as you. A win, win situation if you ask me and absolutely recommend everyone to try them out. You will not be disappointed. Thanks for such an amazing evening Team Literary Hour.
We had a great time and I had a great birthday, loved the extra touches like the excerpts and the bathroom!
Homemade cheese, fabulous meat, a stunning pudding and smashing post dinner snacks, all brought together by the warmest and friendliest home in North London. We met brilliant people and shared excellent food and can't wait for the next one! No one can hold a candle to The Literary Hour!
LOVE LOVE LOVED. A fantastic night with amazing food and great hosts. All 4 course were delicious and beautifully presented. I would highly recommend this!
What a treat! A delicious cocktail on arrival kicked things off. The atmosphere was set with a long banquet tables decorated with candles and hand written name places. The burrata was a favourite, a hint of chilli and served with fresh peas & mint. The readings from fairytales between courses was a really nice touch. Loved the straw (or hay?) smoked lamb chops with pomegranate molasses! The only disappointed was not being chosen to smash up the impressive gingerbread house with a rolling pin. Still it tasted good! Thanks for a real swell evening, book me in for the next one!
A boisterous affair with great food and company :) Jude and the team were just lovely hosts, and made us feel like we were at a friend's house party. Heaps of fun. I'll definitely be back for the other menus if I can get tickets.
The food, service and atmosphere was fantastic! Thank you for an amazing evening!
Absolutely fantastic experience! The whole evening is very well thought out, from the menu to the ongoing theme upstairs in the bathroom. The hosts are ever so welcoming and friendly. This was my first Grub Club event and I thoroughly enjoyed myself as did my friends. Would highly recommend.
Loved the evening. Great hosts!
Really great evening. The hosts had made an amazing meal which was served with a short story to introduce each dish. The lamb was delicious and our 'poison apple dessert' a sumptuous treat to end the meal. I look forward to their next event!
What a wonderful cosy evening! The food was delicious, and not what I would ever cook at home. The other guests were great company and the litterary theme even continued into the bathroom upstairs! I will be visiting again - thanks The Literary Hour!
Great atmosphere, lovely night out, great if you want to do something different!
Great food and service, with an ice twist on some traditions fairy tales. Food was excellent and complementary cocktail to start!
Plenty of great food, and every mouthful was delicious! Top hosts and wonderful attention to detail. Stuck to the theme brilliantly well. An all-round amazing evening.
Had a really great night. The idea is fantastic and the atmosphere was great! Really recommended!
This was my first Grub Club event and it was FANTASTIC. The menu was carefully considered and well executed (including my last minute request to switch to a vegetarian meal which was dealt with very graciously!) and the readings between courses gave the dinner an extra touch and contributed to a wonderful atmosphere. Everything was just so well thought out but I don't want to reveal too much here in case it spoils it for anyone going in future, but hats off to you guys! This was perhaps one of my favourite experiences in London. I'm looking forward to the next one now!
Excellent first supper club experience last night at the literary hour. Top notch menu and food, would highly recommend!
Second time dining with The Literary Hour and it didn't disappoint. Delicious food with a fun twist & a lovely atmosphere.
Utterly spell binding! Thank you for such a unique and lovely evening.
Our first supper club, and definitely not our last! Lovely evening, great food and with the fairytale twist. They'd thought of everything. Loved the link between stories and food. Would definitely recommend.
Fantastic evening! Readings of the well chosen fragments of the stories was a very nice touch
Really well put together- the theme was great and original. The hosts did a superb introduction of each course, and they worked hard to foster a good atmosphere. They even came out and chatted with us afterwards, which was nice and personal- the first such occasion that I have experienced the hosts do that. You're in for a good time at the Literary Hour
It was a wonderful evening with amazing food and the funnest nicest hosts. The readings were also great.
Incredible experience. Wonderful hosts, varied mix of guests, friendly atmosphere, amazing food and great theme. Some beautifully performed readings!
ThIs was a really great night. Lovely food, lovely people a real delight!
A completely unique event with great food in a gorgeous comfortable setting. The table setting and dining room were decorated beautifully in theme and we were greeted by hosts taking our jackets and giving us a cocktail. The food was amazing and all themed to a fairytale. We had a good group, very friendly and overall a really good night!
Such a fantastic evening - fabulous and creative food with a cosy and friendly atmosphere. Top night!
We had a fabulous evening! The food was delicious, the lamb perhaps a bit over smoked, but the presentation spectacular. Can't wait for the next one they do.
This was our first supper club experience and we loved it. Everything had been well thought out and really lovely touches on the Grimm theme. Such as the stories playing in the bathroom. I wasn't expecting the food to be so good and so beautifully presented. Even my husband, who is a really fussy eater, was happy. Definitely recommended.
Had such a wonderful evening at the literary hour. Great settings and very kind, welcoming hosts. It felt like a very special evening but also relaxed and comfortable. The food was amazing.
What an amazing experience. Jude and all her housemates were incredible hosts and the food was spectacular, especially pumpkin arancini and straw-smoked lamb. I can't wait for the Disney themed dinner. Soft-shell crab and venison, anyone?
Another fantastic night from the Literary Hour. Second time round, new menu - Grimms Fairy Tales - and it certainly did not disappoint. Perfectly balanced welcome cocktail, fabulous aranchini to start with...The whole dinner was not only delicious but creative. Very friendly team, warm atmosphere and again fantastic attention to detail. Even a gingerbread house to smash and eat with coffee! Definitely worth it. Highly recommended. Already looking forward to the next time and their new creations!
The Literary Hour team were lovely and very welcoming. We had a brilliant evening and met some great people. A lot of love and effort clearly going into everything, admittedly some of the food was a little hit and miss, but the overall atmosphere and people were so lovely it really didn't matter too much.
Extremely jolly evening at a long table with very enjoyable company and excellent food. Hosts v. welcoming, and keep the courses moving with pithy readings from the Brothers' Grimm as they introduce each dish.
A really special - and tasty - evening. The table was beautifully laid, and we enjoyed a delicious welcome cocktail among the buzz of conversation as all the guests arrived. The food was excellent, especially the burrata and the arancini. Inventive menu and wonderful fairytale readings between courses. Can't wait for the next themed round of evenings from this supper club!
Cleverly crafted and delightfully presented. Food with love, pride and imagination, Inviting and hospitable- a really rather fantastic and different culinary experience. We had such an enjoyable time we missed the last tube back!
A novel and fun experience – loved the long table and the whole set up (especially the audiobook in the bathroom), food was nice, but could have wowed a little bit more and been a bit more plentiful!
Amazingly fun and creative dinner with The Literary Hour. We were impressed by their attention to detail from the delicious food to excerpts from the audiobook playing in the bathroom! Would definitely recommend.
Thank you for a spectacular evening... We had an absolute blast! Jude was definitely the hostess with the mostess! Delicious food, fabulous concept and beautiful setting. I won't give away any of the surprises but I very much recommend if you're a Roald Dahl fan after a one-of-a-kind experience.
This was an amazing evening. i took a friend for a surprise and we could not have been more happy with it. the food was delicious, the whole experience was so well thought out from start to finish! Any Roald Dahl fans out there ... this is a must!
Really good evening, the team at Literary Hour produced a cracking menu, followed the theme closely and added a few nice little touches.. everyone enjoyed themselves thoroughly and would highly recommend their events..
I booked this for my sister's 30th, it was the first supper club either of us have been to and we had an amazing evening. We felt welcome as soon as we stepped through the door (the tiles in the hallway are beautiful by the way), the company was lovely and conversation flowed easily. The food was fantastic, perfect portion sizes and timing between courses, we were never rushed, our hosts just left us to talk, the peaches were delicious - my favourite course. A really lovely evening, will recommend to friends and will definitely come again!
Fantastic evening! Lovely food, well thought-out menu and lots of nice little touches!
A fantastic night, delicious food and a really great group of people to dine with. The ideas were well thought out and there were some really clever touches throughout the meal linking back to each book. We loved every course and came away feeling stuffed. Great that you could bring your own drink and that everyone was getting into the spirit of things. I did find it a bit noisy at first and hard to hear the people opposite but it seemed to get better as the evening progressed. Also perhaps did feel slightly cramped with some difficulty getting in and out to go to the loo. Overall a great experience and we would go to the next event.
Best Supper Club by far! Brilliant team and food. Quirky, creative and fun. Try it if you manage to get a golden ticket!
What a wonderful evening! Perfect hosting, delicious menu and great company. Thank you for an extraordinary Halloween evening. Will definitely be booking a place for the next event.
A suitably themed dinner for Halloween (Silence of the lambs) - the evening was a lot of fun! The food was imaginative with no lack in quality! Hosts were exceptionally warm. I hope to make another of The Literary Hours supper clubs! Thanks Lit Hour!
Absolutely brilliant night, really hope you do more so we can come again please! Great food and fabulous hosts especially making us extra cocktails! x
This is the 2nd event I have attended by these fine folks and it was absolutely fabulous. Wonderful food and brilliant hosts.Great vibe and beautiful presentation - go to anything these guys do!
Absolutely excellent food, hosts and company. The attention to detail was very impressive, from the inventive table decorations (brains in jam in jam jars!) to the audiobook being a spooky accompaniment in the loo. Highly recommended, I will definitely be going again! Loved every minute!!
Food was wonderful as was the company!
The Literary Hour's Roald Dahl supper club was an absolute delight! The food was superb - both inventive and delicious - and the complimentary George's Marvellous Medicine-themed cocktail on arrival went down a treat. But, for me, what really made the evening so special was the attention to detail and all the small touches - Matilda playing over the speakers in the bathroom, the personalised place names and the readings before each course. 5* rating from me - I would thoroughly recommend!
The most amazingly inventive and delicious food I have ever had! Such a wonderful evening, really hope to go again soon!
Easily the best grub club I've ever been to. The food was incredible and Jude and the gang were amazing hosts. The dining experience included so many surprises and delights and the vibe was really relaxed and fun. It was really easy to get talking to the other guests so it's a wonderful event to go to if you're looking to meet new people. I will 100% be going back - I'd also suggest that it's a great thing to do if you have any tourist friends in town.
SO SO impressed - the food was delicious, inventive, clever, nostalgic. I won't ruin the surprises but safe to say there were surprises!! We had a wonderful night. Thanks so much Literary Hour team, can't WAIT to come to the next one!
Such a lovely evening in a beautiful, cosy environment. All those involved in the evening were extremely friendly and helpful and the effort they put in was amazing. Delicious food and wonderful surprises. Not an event to be missed!
What a wonderful and fun evening! The food was delicious and the atmospher captured the theme perfectly! The Gin cocktails a lovely treat :-)
beautifully designed dishes!
Such an exceptional evening had by all. The food was some of the most delicious I have ever tasted and gives any restaurant a run for it's money. Each course was the perfect size and had surprises for the taste buds at every turn. There was incredible attention to detail from funny readings between courses, to Matilda playing in the bathroom. I sat next to an adorable and interesting couple who were very fun to talk to. The host, Jude, is so friendly and interesting and all of the people serving us were so nice to talk to. I can't wait for her next supper club she is a genius.
I loved the concept. We had a lovely evening - great atmosphere, and without spoiling any surprises - some fun and tasty food! Highly recommended
I thought the people sat next to me could have laughed a little harder at my jokes because my chat was so fragrant that night, but other than that was a fully 5-star dinner. Of the ten or so Grub Club events we've been to, this is joint best of the 'homely' clubs.
Loved the food and the consistant theme of the evening - we had a great time!
The Roald Dahl themed dinner party was such a great evening. The food was delicious as well as imaginative to link in well with the theme. The event itself was fun, it was great to chat to the other guests and the atmosphere was easy going. The hosts put on a great show and wowed us with surprises here and there. They were very accommodating and provided anything that we needed.
Brilliant evening! Brought back so many lovely nostalgic memories of Roald Dahl books through the readings and little surprises. The food was fittingly delicious too (even the snozzcumber!). Loved it.
Lovely, relaxed friendly atmosphere and the people were really attentive. Food was delicious, great fun with the Roald Dahl theme and everything had been so well thought out! Can't wait for the next one!
This was a super fun evening, attention to detail was fantastic and the selected readings really added to the nostalgia of being immersed in all things Roald Dahl. Oh, and the food was bloody good too! Can't wait for the next one!
This wonderful evening of taste sensations and Roald Dahl magic took us back to our youth, being frightening of The Witches and gunning for James during his Giant Peach quest. The food was of an excellent quality and the hosts were attentive and innovative. A brilliant experience that comes highly recommended to all - not only Roald Dahl lovers, but also food connoisseurs!
Amazing, had such a good time! So clever and fun :D :D
Great fun and brought me back to a childhood filled with Roald Dahl excitement! Food was typically quirky and of an excellent quality and the hosts were attentive and innovative. Brilliant experience and thoroughly recommended to all!
Fabulous evening, fantastic food and no detail left to chance. So thoughtfully put together. Loved it all!
The perfect supper club! Amazing attention to detail with all the themed decorations, lovely hosts and the food was amazingly creative.. still trying to wrap my head around how they did some of the dishes! Can't wait to hear about the next theme :D
Amazing food and great hosts! Loved the attention to detail and little surprises. Will definitely go to their future dinners!
It was, quite literally a world of imagination (sorry - couldn't resist). The food was phenomenal - delicious and imaginative, the hosting was faultless and the attention to detail was exceptional. The guys had thought of everything! I can't recommend this highly enough - the only concern would be how they could possibly match it.
Amazing amounts of thought and detail put into the evening, a sprinkling of surprises (before and during) coupled with such enthusiasm and friendliness made for a truly beautiful experience. Thank you thank you! "Never do anything by halves if you want to get away with it. Be outrageous. Go the whole hog."
