Ayurveda: Ancient Indian Gastronomy

Why Join the Table?

Legendary dining experiences by a Michelin-trained chef and his wife in their home & garden. Grub Club's highest rated experience & one of London's coolest supperclubs according to Time Out

Ayurveda refers to an ancient Indian philosophy and way of life, from medicine and holistic therapies to food, lifestyle and psychology. Quite often we feel wound up in modern society's never-ending loop of exhaustion and just need a break. This summer we're drawing from the Ayurvedic concept of Sattva, the Ayurvedic attributes of wholeness, healing, positivity and nourishment to create an afternoon of holistic energy.

In Ayurveda a Sattvic diet emphasizes healthy living, particularly for keeping our minds clear, youthful and at calm. Sattvic foods are foods that are abundant in...

In a Nutshell

One of London's coolest supperclubs, as mentioned in Time Out by a husband and wife team in their home. They're also Grub Club's top rated experience!

'That Hungry Chef', Pratap Chahal, has cooked at Gordon Ramsay at Claridge’s, Chez Bruce, Cinnamon Club and Galvin Bistrot, amongst others. He is accompanied by his wife, Nikhat previously a child psychologist, who looks after Front of House.

His food is inspired by his travels around the world, life in London and Indian heritage.

The Whole Hog

There’s nothing more comforting than going out for dinner and feeling like it’s your own private party. At chez Hungry Chef, the atmosphere is exactly that!

Diners end up staying for hours, chatting away over several glasses of wine, in a dreamy food coma. Conversations flutter from travel, food, antique furniture and art, to life in London and the infamous British weather.

Also, there’s usually a last minute surprise or two thrown in by Pratap and his wife.

Having won critical acclaim from Fay Maschler and Guy Diamond for his cooking at Greenberry Café, Pratap also spent 18 months travelling around the world, eating and drinking his way through the best restaurants, cafes and markets.

Based around the cuisine of the Indian subcontinent, the dinners take inspiration from the royal houses of India, Pratap’s world travels and great British seasonal produce.

Ideal for meeting new people or partying with old friends, in the surrounds of a gorgeous Islington home, this Grub Club is sure to have you return.

The menu changes monthly, giving you the opportunity to sample Pratap’s vast repertoire of food and even get a chance to improve your food knowledge.

Had the most incredible time at the supper club. Had never been to one before and it was a truly memorable experience, would recommend to anyone who's looking for a different dining experience!

Wow! What a wonderful experience – a lovely way to spend an afternoon and the fact that it rained didn't matter at all. The exercise and meditation was so much better than I thought it would be (and not scary at all!) and the food afterwards – fantastic!! All the dishes were healthy (great) as well as delicious but – tapioca, coconut and cucumber? Whoever would have thought something that sounds so weird could be so amazingly tasty. The spicing was just wonderful! Saffron, pepper, ginger and rose? That combination sounds almost too strange but…… I just want to make it at home and share it with loads of others. Brilliant. Pratap and Nikhat are so welcoming. I just want to say a massive thank you. Again, wonderful!!

Coming to any of The Hungry Chef's events feels like home away from home! The atmosphere is always absolutely wonderful, Pratap and Nikhat are the perfect hosts and the food is always out of this world! The 4 stage meditation was amazing and entirely eye-opening. The first stage of the meditation was also a lot more active than I thought! Nikhel is incredibly gifted and is obviously following his vocation and I felt truly honoured to have attended this event. I hope it will take place again and wish Natalia and Nikhel all the very best on their continued world tour!
