If you’re an amateur photographer (like me) and you want to take professional looking photos look no further. Here are my tips to making an ok-ish photo look super-duper fancy.
- Download Google’s ‘Snapseed App’
This allows you to change so much of your photo, but what is important is that you can adjust the brightness, contrast, and sharpness and so many more things. And if this overwhelms you, there’s a helpful wand button that adjusts everything automatically for you.
I generally use Snapseed for increasing the brightness of my photo before I apply a filter.
- Use VSCO cam for applying filters.
VSCO gives you access to some amazing filters that will really change your photo. Some of them are free, whereas others need to be bought. Don’t let an in-app purchase put you off though; they’re cheap, high quality and once bought, you’ll always have them.
Quickly, here is how to download VSCO filters (we’ll use Grub Club’s photos as an example).
We have downloaded the free presets HB1 and HB2 and the purchasable ‘THE MINIMALIST COLLECTION’ (which includes 10 filters).
Back to the editing of the photos…
Here at Grub Club, we’ve decided to tone things down with the preset J4 and when this filter doesn’t suit that particular photo, we use the filters HB1 or HB2. Here’s the difference between an unfiltered photo and with the J4 preset used.
To edit a photo is really straight forward.
VSCO is not the only filter app, however, it’s the one I’ve come to use and love the most. Others include Afterlight and of course, Instagram’s own in-app filters.
This is the extent to which I’ll edit photos, however, if I want a text-over-photo I’ll use the WORDSWAG app.
Next week, I’ll be showing you how to use Instagram stories, a tool that I think is invaluable to increasing your likeability, so check it out.
And when you get a chance, like @grub_club on instagram…and tell us what you think.
